This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life. Psalm 119:50
Arise sweet child of God, arise!
Be encouraged by the very words of God. Here are a few to consider:
- Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law. Psalm 119:18
- My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to Your word. Psalm 119:25
- Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Psalm 119:89
- The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever. Psalm119:160
My pastor tells me there are 7,000 promises of God in the Bible. I long to discover each one! Some may not be revealed until they are truly needed. Psalm 119:67 & 71 are good examples. So be careful what you wish for as you may find yourself in a very unpleasant situation just so you might be might to receive one of His awesome promises.
What is a promise?
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a promise as the following:
1. A declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified.
2. A legally binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect or claim the performance of specified act.
A promise means if God said it, He will do it and we have a right to expect Him to do it. That should give us the confidence to trust Him.
So let’s look at a few promises.
Revelation 3:20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
This promise indicates the God Himself indicates the contact. He is the one who knocks. If we respond by hearing and letting Him in, then He comes in and satisfies us.
Luke 11:9-10 ““So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
No matter what we need. We are told to ask for it, seek to find it, and knock until the door is opened. Persistence is key. Don’t give up.
Mark 10:27 “But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”
Everything is possible with God. A restored life. A reconciled relationship. A body healed. The dead raised to life. The barren give birth. Walking on water. Seeing the spiritual world. Answered prayers. A new job. Bills paid. Food on the table. God can do all things.
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Rest for our souls is found in Jesus Christ alone. His yoke is easy and His burden is light because He carried the yoke for you. He carried the burdened to set us free.
Father, lead the discouraged ones to your Son Jesus for the refreshment of their souls. Stir up your Spirit in them to draw them close to you. In Jesus’ name Amen.
