There is no peace, says the Lord, for the wicked. Isaiah 48:22 NKJV
Does this mean when I have no peace I am doing wickedly? For if I truly trust in the Lord Almighty I should not worry, doubt, fear, or strive. In other words I would be at peace in Him.
If everything that happens to me must go through God first, His sovereign will allows it, then it is for my good. For God’s plans for me are not to harm me but to give me a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
Isaiah 48:18 says “Oh that you had headed my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Think about the words “river” and “waves” for moment. What commonalities do they have?
Both are moving bodies of water. Rivers flow. Waves roll. Waves also stand up. Waves are consistent. If we head His commandments we would be flowing in His peace and our righteousness would be consistent in our life. We would even stand up against was is wrong in order that truth and righteousness would prevail.
As Pastor Rick Warren says there is a promise and a premise in this verse. The promise is peace and righteousness. The premise is obey God’s commands.
Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. He even told us to gives us peace not like what the world gives. For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us (2 Corinthians 1:20).
In Him we have everything we need. We have authority, power, strength, ability to love, to forgive, and to cease from striving. In Him, we don’t have to make anything happen for He has done it all, it is finished in Him. We are complete, not lacking any good thing.
Isaiah 45:3 says “I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that, I the Lord, who call you by your name, AM the God of Israel.”
Through the dark times, God reveals Himself. In the darkness I learn to trust Him. In the darkness are treasures of intimacy with God, strengthening of my faith, building confidence in the Lord, and creating a story to share with others to help them come to know the mighty God too!
This really shows how God uses all things for good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28).
We are more than conquerors in Christ. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances look like for Christ has already won the most important battle – the battle for our souls! Now, we stand forever engraved in the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16) where nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:35-39). No weapon formed against us can prosper, for God Himself is for us!
Have you found Peace yet? It’s only found Jesus. Ask Him to come into your life and show you what real peace feels like.
