Then the angel said to her “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” Luke 1:30 NKJV
Mary’s first reaction to the angel was to be troubled. She was frightened. But I love how the angel responds to reassure her. Don’t be afraid, Mary. He personalizes it calling her by name.
The last part of the sentence is even better. “For you have found favor with God.” Now that’s a statement of assurance. That’s up there with another statement we long to hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Can you imagine someone telling you found favor with God? Well guess what? If you have trusted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior you have found favor with God! If you haven’t done that yet, you are fighting against God. Romans 5:10 NIV says “when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”
No time like the present to make a decision to follow God. Just pray a simple prayer like this:
God, forgive me for my sins. I believe Jesus died for me. Come into my life and make me new. In Jesus’ name Amen.
If you prayed that prayer sincerely, then you found favor with God. That means you’re now part of God’s family. Welcome!
God Almighty, thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins and to live again giving me life secured forever with you. Thank you for favoring us now that we know and trust Jesus’ salvation. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
