And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:41 NKJV
Up until this point, Elizabeth was probably enthralled with her own miracle pregnancy and prophecy for her child. Think about it. Elizabeth was older and probably past her birthing years. But that doesn’t stop God’s plan. Instead, He chooses Elizabeth to be the mother of John the Baptist!
As if that wasn’t enough glorious news. Her cousin, Mary, showed up for a visit with news of her own to share. Mary had a visit from an angel who told her she was carrying the Son of God!
Why even Elizabeth’s unborn child was excited to heard Mary. He leaped inside of Elizabeth’s womb at the sound of Mary’s voice! It’s no wonder, considering baby John is meant to make a straight path for the Lord.
The two women rejoiced together no doubt about it. Both women with extraordinary tales of God’s loving kindness. And both women were chosen to play important parts in God’s grand plan. How wonderful of God to bring these women to each other for mutual encouragement. Now they had someone who could relate to the experience each was going through.
God designed us to be in community with others. Although this community was only two persons, that was all that was needed! These women encouraged each other and were strengthened by each other. Their faith grew that day, leaps and bounds, to be sure.
Lord God Almighty, what a wonderful, caring God you are. You brought these women together to care and comfort one another. You designed us to be in relationship with one another. Thank you for placing us in relationships to encourage one another. In Jesus’ name Amen.
