Psalm 4:5 NKJV Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.
By doing what is right you offer sacrifice to God. By doing right and not worrying about the consequences because you trust God will make everything work out for good.
What is righteousness?
The answer may be found in Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.”
The righteous person who follows hard after god doesn’t need to fret over how things will work out because God promises to prosper those who walk with Him. Take a look at the benefits of being righteous in Psalm 1:3 “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
I never thought of righteousness as a sacrifice before because living righteously has personal benefits. But it is a sacrifice of our choice. We can choice to live for our self or live for God. When we choose to live for God, He blesses us for it.
My young son wants a certain toy. We made an arrangement that allows him to get that toy. During the summer months he must complete a certain number of pages from an educational workbook. At the end of summer, if the work is complete he will be rewarded with the toy. I hope he does the work because as his parent I want to reward him.
God as our heavenly Father wants to reward us too. Not because of our good deeds, but because we trust in His Son’s work.
What can you start / stop doing today that would enable you to choose to live righteously?

O’ Lord of mercy and truth, thank you for the rewards of your righteousness. Thank you for helping me to choose to live righteously in you. In Jesus’ precious name I pray Amen.
