Luke 2:15-20 NKJV
So it was when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
The shepherds now needed to make a decision. Do they chalk up the angel experience as some fantastic dream and carry on their shepherding work? Or do they go and find the babe the angel spoke about?
The shepherds decide to seek the babe in the manger. The left their sheep and went searching expectedly to see what their ears had heard. In all their seeking, they were not disappointed. For they discovered the child exactly as the angel had said. After experiencing this first hand they set themselves to the work of sharing this great news with everyone.
The people who heard what the shepherds shared marveled. But Mary treasured these things in her heart. The shepherd’s message was further confirmation to Mary that she held the Son of God in her arms.
The shepherds returned to their flocks glorifying and praising God for all the things they heard and seen. This experienced filled them with joy and caused them to praise God.
Isn’t that what this is all about?
Praise God for all He’s done for us.
