For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 NKJV
We need not to defend our way of living, for others will do that for us. As long as we’re authentically living to please God alone, others will take notice. Others will see how God changed us and they’ll want that for themselves too. When we see how others have been changed by God, it is most assuring and hope generating. If they, who were once filled with “bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking,” start operating out of a heart of love (which only God gives) their lives become different and they are “kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” ( Ephesians 4:30-32 )
One of my most favorite things to do is listen to how others came to Christ. At Saddleback Church’s Celebrate Recovery program, every Friday night everyone in the program meets for worship, testimonies, and fellowship. The testimonies are my favorite. When someone gives a testimony, they start by sharing how they went wrong in life, confessing their sins but not glorifying them. They give a picture of how life was before they knew Christ. Once the bleak picture is painted, they move on to the best part – how Jesus Christ changed all that! I just love hearing how God moved in other’s lives. It’s very inspiring.
We all have a story to tell, just like those in Celebrate Recovery. We were lost once and finally realized we were lost, Christ was there to save us. Everyone we come in contact with is in of saving grace. Share your story. You might be amazed at how God uses your story to reach others.
Lord Jesus, thank you for coming into our life and changing us. Thank you for your word which is true, right, pure, and wise. Thank you for the gift of salvation that comes from faith in you by grace of God. In your precious name we pray Amen.
