When I was just starting out as a small group leader I felt a holy burden to encourage the members of my small group. As I would read the Bible in my quiet time, there would usually be a particular verse that resonated loudly with me. The more I thought about the verse, the more clearly I became aware of what I was to do with the verse. I was to share it with others. At first I wasn’t sure that everyone needed to hear my “revelations”, but the responses I received proved otherwise. I would get responses like “you don’t know how much I needed to hear that,” or “that really brightened my day,” or “that really spoke to my situation right now.”
Every time I would get “stuck” on a verse it indicates I need to share with someone. Most of the time I will write a Bible devotion about that verse and share with my small group. But even sharing the verse itself is powerful enough. Remember God said in Isaiah 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
You may be asked to do the same thing whether you are a writer or not because you are a small group leader. You might decide to share Scripture via email, a handwritten card, or call someone and speak it to them. However you choice to share it know that God’s purpose for it will prevail. So there’s no way you can fail at encouraging someone with God’s Word!
If you would like me to encourage your small group for you, simply have your members sign up for our daily Devotions using the sign up form to the right of this post. I would be honored to send daily devotions to keep them encouraged with God’s Word!
