Serving is an outward expression of the condition of our hearts. As we read the book of Ruth, we can clearly see Ruth had a servant’s heart after she committed herself to Naomi’s God.
So it is with our conversion. When we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, a change takes place. We recognize we are His servants, put here for His purposes.
Serving others is a sign of spiritual rebirth. Once I was very selfish in my ways, my attitudes, and my actions. After Christ came into my life, I started becoming other-oriented. I no longer focus on my needs, but rather on what others needed.
As a small group, what are some ways you could reach out to help others? Have you considered holding small group in a different location? Perhaps meeting at a local coffee house would allow the group to welcome others.
One member in our group loves to invite people to her church’s high school plays. They put on productions two or three times a year. She always asks people to come. It’s a great way to get to know people as well as get them to know the Lord. Remember, most people don’t know they need Jesus. If we make friends with them, we have more chance to share His love with them through time we spend with them.
