Mother Theresa once said something to the effect of “she sees Jesus in the people she serves.” While I used to believe this was just a simple mind trick to motivate yourself to do the good things you know you should do, I am no longer convinced.
Recently, several Scripture verses kept coming to my mind. They were all swirling around in my mind like pigeons trying to find a good place to perch. These verses were trying to find just the right place in my brain to settle down. So let me share a few of these verses, keep in the mind the bolded words are my emphasis:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
It’s difficult to put in clear order the crazy swirling of my thoughts on this topic. However, after hearing these verses playing over and over in my mind, something clicked. I got it!
Jesus is in you.
When I serve you, I am serving Jesus!
Jesus, by His Holy Spirit in me, is giving me the very power I need to serve you.
By serving you as Jesus would I reflect Jesus to the world as His witness!
Have you ever had a thought like this?
